The Invisalign® system uses a sequence of clear, thin, medical-grade polymer aligners to treat biting problems and malocclusion. Because the aligners are clear, they are nearly undetectable when worn, allowing adults and teens to wear them throughout the day without the cosmetic discomforts associated with bulkier, more prominent orthodontics.
Over the course of treatment, each pair of aligners will shift your teeth closer to their ideal position, Invisalign® is a more pleasant and less painful technique to shift teeth than traditional braces because it progressively moves the teeth without the need of brackets or wires. Treatment takes 12 to 18 months on average for adults, compared to 36 months or more for wire and bracket options.
While traditional orthodontics uses metal braces to straighten your teeth, Invisalign® uses a series of clear plastic aligners to achieve the same results. These aligners are practically undetectable, allowing you to maintain a fully natural appearance while having treatment to improve your teeth’s position and appearance. Invisalign is commonly used to treat the same problems that braces do, such as
– Bad bites (overbite, underbite, open bite, crossbite, etc.
– Crowded and crooked teet
– Gapped and spaced teeth
Each patient is required to wear their aligners for a total of 22 hours per day. This means that aligners should be worn at all times while a person is not eating, drinking, or brushing their teeth. However, the time it takes Invisalign to perfectly align teeth varies depending on the patient’s case and how frequently they wear their aligners. Speak with your dentist to discover more about how long you’ll need to wear Invisalign aligners to get the results you want.

Braces are made up of metal brackets that are glued to your teeth and are held together by wires and tiny rubber bands, whereas Invisalign is designed to be nearly invisible. Aligner trays made of smooth, comfortable, BPA-free clear plastic are worn over your teeth to move them subtly and gently. While both braces and Invisalign can help straighten teeth, each has advantages and disadvantages.
While Invisalign was originally intended for adults, its popularity quickly gave rise to a new procedure known as Invisalign Teen. Invisalign Teen has some distinguishing characteristics that make it ideal for adolescents:
Furthermore, teens prefer Invisalign Teen over traditional braces because it is less noticeable, easier to clean, and more comfortable for growing mouths.
When most patients get used to their aligners, they barely notice them. You may remove them to eat and maintain your oral hygiene routine. Although you will need to visit your dentist more frequently than usual, you will most likely find that the aligners have little impact on your day-to-day life. That is, in fact, one of the reasons why so many patients prefer Invisalign.
If you invest in Invisalign or another dental treatment, always follow the instructions of your care provider. Patients who only wear their aligners at night will not achieve the desired results with Invisalign. At least 20-22 hours per day are required to effectively guide the teeth into their desired position.
